Thanks all.
I have just cleaned up the documentation and whilst doing so I remembered an important point.
If you have idp.searchForProperties=true
set then you are going to get all the property files in the conf folder.
So if you are going for property drive you have the choices of
just slam them into
idp.properties
Pop them into
idp.metadatagen.properties
inside conf somewhereKeep them external to
idp.home
(maybe this is relevant for docker? and specify them-propertyFiles
I added a note to that effect to the documentation
Chris, I hope this gives you the power you need.

I think the intent was to pilot this plugin for now and then eventually remove the original code from the installer, so the duplication is just temporary. This would be expected to produce the idp-metadata.xml file if somebody wants it.
As the IdP installer drops an idp-metadata.xml, also generate SP metadata for use during proxying.
Either within the existing idp-metadata.xml or, possibly more usefully, in a new sp-metadata.xml file.
